Casualty Rescued After Being Cut Off by the Tide at Fort Hommet
A 29-year-old man was rescued this evening after becoming cut off by the rising tide at Fort Hommet on Guernsey’s west coast.
Guernsey Coastguard received the initial report at 7:32pm that a male was stranded and unable to make his way back to shore safely due to the incoming tide. The RNLI Inshore Lifeboat (ILB) “Harold Hobbs” was subsequently paged at 7:43pm and launched on service
at 7:58pm.
The ILB arrived on scene at 8:16pm, where the casualty was located and recovered safely.
The man was then transported to Vazon Beach, where he was landed safe and well at 8:27pm. No medical treatment was required.
Following the successful rescue, the ILB returned to station and was ready for service again by 8:49pm.
Guernsey Coastguard would like to thank the RNLI volunteer crew for their swift response and professional assistance in bringing the incident to a safe conclusion.
Guernsey Coastguard said:
Members of the public are reminded that Guernsey’s coastline can be quickly affected by the tide, particularly around headlands and rocky outcrops.
Anyone planning to explore coastal areas should check tide times in advance, remain aware of changing conditions, and always ensure they have a safe route back to shore.
